Have you ever wondered how many love languages you can have? Can you have more than one love language? Can your love language be all of them? Dr. Chapman, in his books on the Five Love Languages says that we usually have one primary and one secondary language.
Having More Than One Love Language
From our experience, it seems that this holds:
Can your love language be all of them? The answer is YES…to an extent. My ranking, for example, for my giving love language would be:
- Giving Gifts
- Quality Time
- Acts of Service
- Physical Touch
- Words of Affirmation
Of course we’d still have a “mother tongue”, but it would help to learn how to speak each language even to a certain degree. It is, after all, not impossible to do. We can have multiple love languages / more than one love language after all! We have family members, friends, officemates, churchmates, our romantic partner, siblings, neighbors, etc. Just like how speaking various languages makes it easy for a traveller to interact with people from many places, learning how to speak the FIVE LOVE LANGUAGES will allow you to better relate with others as well.
From My Personal Experience
And my ranking for my receiving love language would be:
- Quality Time
- Acts of Service
- Physical Touch
- Words of Affirmation
- Receiving Gifts
I have gifts as the lowest love language but that doesn’t mean that I will take offense in receiving a gift. If it’s done in love, it will still be appreciated — although maybe not as much as other expressions of love. On the other hand, if my top love languages (QUALITY TIME / ACTS OF SERVICE) are not met, then I will still not be as “loved” no matter how many gifts you give.
So, can you have multiple love languages? Can you have more than one love language? Can your love language be all of them? Yes, you can. And it may be of benefit to you and your loved ones if you actually make an effort to improve on each language.

Pingback: Show Love Using the 5 Love Languages (with FREE worksheet!)
Interesting read! I haven’t thought of many love languages until this post giving me a more views on that. Thanks for sharing!
I love this post. I think all of us have more than one love language. I just think we all have one that’s a little more prominent than another.
I love the idea of cultivating more than one love language, especially if you already tend to use more than one anyway. I think it’s a wonderful idea.
Great post! I think you can certainly have more than one love language, and its valuable to understand them all!
Quality time and acts of Service are my top two as well. My husband and I recently took the test and it was really eye opening.
I agree with you on this topic. One can have many love languages and I do too. It was confusing at the begining but I think I am aware noe.
I believe that I have the first 4 on your list but I am not very good with the 5th one. I grew up in a family that giving gifts was not really practiced. Or if it was, just sparingly.
I believe that you can have multiple love languages. However, we also all have a primary love language. It is important to recognize your own primary love language and that of your partner. As well, it is great to cultivate additional love languages.
Thanks for that worksheet – I am really not sure what my love language is at this point, so this will help a lot – blessings
Pingback: Two Sides of Love Languages: Giving vs. Receiving
Languages of love, I absolutely love this! I agree there are different aspects of love for different people in our lives and who we encounter. This is such an important awareness to have. Thanks for sharing this content!
I think yes! We can have more than one. Although, one would be super dominant than the other! Great article!
There are five love languages: Words of Affirmation, Acts of Service, Receiving Gifts, Quality Time, and Physical Touch. Each one is important and expresses love in its own way.
Love the idea of finding a dominant love language for each person so we can serve them better.
You’re right, giving gifts to someone when they long for physical touch simply won’t cut it.
Not all people can express love through words. For example, most Asians express their love for FOOD and GIFTS. Some express love through giving TIME.
I’m simple …. my love language is Physical Touch! And that’s it 😉
